Williams take DHL Fastest Pit Stop in Spielberg
Williams hit back impressively in the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award at the Austrian Grand Prix. Lance Stroll’s tire change took 2.18 seconds, which was the fastest pit stop of the race at Spielberg. His team-mate Felipe Massa was turned around and sent back on his way in 2.21 seconds, making it one-two for Williams.
After a poor qualifying session – Massa and Stroll were almost at the back on the penultimate row – the two Williams drivers were able to make amends on Sunday and score points by finishing ninth and tenth respectively. This result was made possible by fast pit stops and by very strong starts – the two drivers each moved up seven places on the first lap.
Both Massa and Stroll completed their only pit stop of the race on Lap 48. “Our strategy was to run for longer on the harder tires and then finish with a shorter stint on the ultrasoft,” said Chief Technical Officer Paddy Lowe. “We certainly ended the weekend on a much better note than it felt like we would yesterday.”
Austria – a one stop race
Spielberg was a classic one-stop race due to low tire wear. Eight of the 18 pit stops lasted less than three seconds with the cars of Daniel Ricciardo and former team-mate, Sebastian Vettel, being serviced in 2.84 seconds, so the Red Bull and Ferrari crews were equally fast.

Williams extend lead in the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award
Williams regained the sole lead in the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award with their one-two victory at Spielberg. The old-established British outfit is now on 213 points, followed by Mercedes on 185, Red Bull with 156 and Ferrari 104.
Sauber took their first point in the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award – Marcus Ericsson was dispatched in 3.05 seconds and was the tenth-fastest driver at the tire change. Consequently, Renault are the only team not to have secured any points after the nine races held so far this season.
