Champions League road trip: FC Bayern draw in Turin

For the first Champions League match of the knock-out round, FC Bayern Munich traveled to Turin to face last year's runners-up in the competition, Juventus Turin. DHL was on hand to take care of transporting the team's equipment for the match.

FC Bayern's latest away match in the Champions League took us to a familiar country this week: Italy! While we accompanied Bayern to their away match in Rome in the group stage of last year's competition, this time the German champions took to the road to face Juventus Turin in the first leg of the Round of 16.

Pep Guardiola's squad was just coming off a home victory against Darmstadt in the Bundesliga before the tie in the Italian Alps. As the team conducted their final practice sessions at home before leaving for Italy, our two DHL couriers were winding their way south with the team's bus from Munich. In the back of the DHL van was all the gear the team would need for the match against Juventus.

Once the team arrived in Turin, DHL took over equipment-hauling duty between the team hotel and the practice grouds as well.

Win slipped away

Things started out well for the Bavarians during the match. They were well in control in the first half and entered halftime with a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Thomas Müller. Shortly after the break, Arjen Robben extended Bayern's lead with a goal of his own. But Jeventus – backed by an enthusiastic home crowd – fought back and evened the score for a final tally of 2-2.

Following FC Bayern from China

"We can live with a 2-2 draw," said Bayern captain Philipp Lahm, who made his 100th appearance in the Champions League in the match. "We’re in a good position for the return."

After the match, our DHL couriers were welcomed at the team dinner as members of the Bayern family. Bright and early the next day, Bayern and DHL said farewell to Turin and headed back to Munich.

But that won't be all these two teams see of each other this season! The second leg matchup between the two teams will take place on March 16 in Bayern's Allianz Arena in Munich. A win, a 0-0 draw, or a 1-1 draw for Bayern would see them advance to the next round of the Champions League.

On track in all competitions

Meanwhile, Bayern maintain their lead in the Bundesliga over second-place Dortmund by eight points. The two teams clash head-to-head on March 5, with Bayern heading to Dortmund for the away match.

In the German Cup, Bayern are still right on course after a 3-0 win on the road against Bochum sets up a home match for the semifinal against Werder Bremen. That match will take place on April 19 or 20.

As Bayern enter the later stages of all three current competitions, the excitement will only continue to grow! We can't wait to see how far Bayern will come this season and will be following the team every step of the way right here on InMotion!
