Williams take DHL Fastest Pit Stop in São Paulo

Williams once again executed a perfect pit stop in the Brazilian Grand Prix, the penultimate race of the 2017 F1 season, and fitted Lance Stroll with new tires in just 2.10 seconds. This was the second-fastest pit stop of the season. The fastest was also by Williams. Felipe Massa was turned around and sent back out in just 2.02 seconds during the British Grand Prix.

Williams beat off competition from Ferrari, as the Scuderia completed the second-fastest pit stop of the race at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace in 2.19 seconds, followed by Red Bull, who needed 2.35 seconds to change Max Verstappen’s tires. 14 of the 21 pit stops in São Paulo lasted less than three seconds, which is fine testament to the excellent work done by the pit crews.

Mercedes win the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award

Despite winning on the day in Brazil, Williams were beaten by Mercedes in the overall standings of the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award. In the run-up to the season finale in Abu Dhabi, the Silver Arrows have a lead of 51 points and cannot now be overtaken by defending champions, Williams.

For Mercedes, this is their maiden victory in the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award which was introduced in 2015 to reward consistent, strong team effort, achieved throughout the season. Ferrari won the first Award, and then Williams secured an outstanding victory last year and also completed the fastest pit stop in F1 history with a time of 1.92 seconds.

After winning the Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championship, this success in the DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award rounds off a perfect season for the Silver Arrows. Also in Brazil, Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton won the DHL Fastest Lap Award before the end of the season, the third time that the World Champion has lifted this particular trophy.
