Race to Rugby World Cup

Ron Rutland & James Owens are setting off on a remarkable quest to cycle 18,500km across Europe and Asia – from London to Tokyo –arriving just in time for Rugby World Cup 2019. Supported by DHL, Ron & James are fundraising for ChildFund Pass It Back.

Cycling and rugby enthusiasts are invited to join Ron and James’ departure from Twickenham Stadium and cycle alongside them and rugby legends to Canterbury.

Ron and James are also welcoming the more experienced and adventurous cyclists to cycle 694kms with them for the first five days, taking them from London to Bonn, Germany.

All event participants are encouraged to help raise funds for ChildFund Pass It Back with everything raised supporting ChildFund Pass It Back who utilize sport for development & deliver an integrated life skills & rugby curriculum for children & young people in disadvantaged communities across Asia.

Registration Fee: £65 per person

Join Ron & James‘ departure from Twickenham Stadium taking part in this momentous expedition cycling out of London through the spectacular ‘Garden of England’ into Canterbury.

London to Bonn

5 day, 694 km cycle

Registration Fee: £1,250 per person
Fundraising Target: £1,000 per person

Experience the best of Europe with a once-in-a-lifetime adventure cycling 694kms over five days from the UK across France and Belgium, through the Netherlands, arriving in Bonn, Germany.

Date: Saturday 2nd until Wednesday 6th February 2019

Arriving: DHL Headquarters, Bonn, Germany

Before registering, you must:

  • Be able to supply your own bicycle and cycling gear
  • Be able to fund and arrange your travel to and from the start and finish locations
  • [London to Bonn Only] Have a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date of travel

Bike Transfers

London to Canterbury - 1 Day Cycle

  • Bike transport from Canterbury back to London is not available and participants are responsible for all property. Please note bikes are allowed on all London over ground trains at anytime Saturday.

London to Bonn – 5 Day Cycle

  • Bike transfers back to Twickenham Stadium are included in the registration fee. The group manager will arrange a time with all participants to collect bikes from the stadium following the expedition.

Return Personal Transfers

London to Canterbury - 1 Day Cycle

  • The registration fee does not include personal return transfer to London. We have asked for an expression of interest for return transfers and should we receive enough interest we will reach out with options. The local Canterbury East train station is a 7 minute cycle or 10 minute drive from the Rugby Club finish line.

London to Bonn – 5 Day Cycle

  • The registration fee does not include return travel from Bonn to London. Participants are required to arrange their own transport into London for the start on Saturday 2nd February and home from Bonn, Germany. Accommodation is included for the arrival evening in Bonn on Wed 6th Feb, so we suggest booking a flight for Thurs 7th Feb.

Accommodation Options

London to Canterbury - 1 Day Cycle

  • The Premier Inn Canterbury City Centre is a 8 minute cycle from the Rugby Club and offers a cost effective option for those looking to stay overnight in Canterbury.

London to Bonn – 5 Day Cycle

  • Accommodation is included.



LONDON TO BONN, 5 DAY, 694 KM CYCLE

*Includes all standard meals; breakfast, pitstops, dinner & return bike transfers to Twickenham. Additional meals, beverages & return personal transport from Bonn to London are not included. Route is subject to change.
