DHL returns as Official Logistics Partner of Rugby World Cup 2019

After partnering on hugely successful tournaments in 2011 and 2015, DHL will team up once again with the Rugby World Cup to deliver an unforgettable tournament to an emerging rugby market in 2019: Japan.

One of the biggest international sporting events in the world – the Rugby World Cup – is coming to Japan from September 20 – November 2, 2019, and DHL is proud to announce its role as Official Logistics Partner and a Worldwide Partner of Rugby World Cup 2019.

It is the third time DHL will take on such an important role at the prestigious competition after becoming the tournament’s Official Logistics Partner for Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand and continuing the partnership for Rugby World Cup 2015 in England.

In England, DHL delivered more than 48 tons of team freight, 1,400 official match balls, and 20 sets of uprights to the 13 match venues, and also delivered more than 400,000 tickets to over 160 countries.

Rugby World Cup 2019 sees the tournament come to an Asian country for the first time. Although not traditionally considered a rugby powerhouse, Japan boasts the fourth-largest population of rugby players in the world.

Ken Allen, CEO, DHL Express, sees “great potential to inspire a new generation of rugby fans with performances both on and off the pitch” and looks forward to putting 45 years of DHL expertise in Japan to use during the tournament.

World Rugby Chairman Bill Beaumont will be looking to DHL’s “outstanding track record as a world leader in the logistics industry and their experience in helping to deliver two previous Rugby World Cups” to “engage and inspire new fans and participants.”

Engaging and inspiring rugby fans is a part of DHL’s DNA: alongside support for previous Rugby World Cup tournaments, DHL also partners with the World Rugby Sevens Series, DHL New Zealand Lions Series 2017, Rugby Canada, the Irish Rugby Football Union, the German Rugby Union, Harlequins in England and the DHL Stormers in South Africa, among other grassroots support for local clubs in many locations around the world.

With DHL’s proven background as rugby experts and dedicated supporters, we look forward to sharing all the passion and enjoyment that rugby embodies with our customers, employees and fans in Japan and around the world over the next two and a half years leading up to what is sure to be an outstanding Rugby World Cup 2019.
