DHL Fastest Lap Award: 2015 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX
The winner of the Formula 1 world championship has been decided: Lewis Hamilton has successfully defended his title. However, the DHL Fastest Lap Award has not yet been won. Nico Rosberg reduced the deficit on his team-mate in the 2015 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX.
Rosberg lost his pole position at the start in a tough battle with Hamilton. He worked his way back to the front during the race, however, and was back in the lead in the final stages. Rosberg posted a number of fastest laps, one after the other, at this point in the race, including a 1:40.666, the fastest of anyone in the grand prix.
"I was, as always, extremely determined and launched an all-out offensive, aiming to secure the win," said Rosberg afterwards. "I was well on my way until I messed things up with a mistake that was my own fault. To lose the lead with wheelspin hurts very much. It's even more tough, because I was very happy to have recovered from the Turn 1 incident with Lewis."
Lewis Hamilton continues to lead the 2015 DHL Fastest Lap Award with three races to go before the end of the season. The new champion has so far notched up six fastest laps, but his team-mate Nico Rosberg is catching up. Rosberg has now posted four fastest laps and could overtake Hamilton before the finale in Abu Dhabi. So, the contest is still wide open and remains exciting.
Teams got down to work to get cars and equipment ready for shipping shortly after the race in Austin, because F1 continues next weekend with the Mexican Grand Prix. "Every race that is within a week's time is a big challenge for all the people involved," said DHL's resident F1 expert Christian Danner. All the cargo has to arrive at the track in Mexico by Tuesday.
