The runways Down Under were burning up last week as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and Faces of NSW Fashion celebrated 20 years of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia. More than 50 designers showed off their Spring/Summer 2015/16 collections for a wildly international audience.
Among those designers in the line-up were swimwear big names We Are Handsome, and Womenswear designers Bec & Bridge, two local brands that have made it big abroad thanks in part to the support of DHL. With its annual DHL Express Fashion Export Scholarship, DHL Australia has helped these brands as they’ve expanded into European and American markets.
Michael Lo Sordo has had his collection picked up by several stockists in New York after winning the prize in 2014, which included the opportunity to fly to New York for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week to meet with an international buyer along with $10,000 worth of international freight and DHL Express and IMG Fashion USA mentorship.
He’s not the only designer to have achieved such success as a result of DHL’s support. The video above includes past winners from both the local Australian scholarship program and the global DHL Exported Program discussing the advancements they’ve been able to make globally thanks to DHL’s logistic support.
Similar success could await one up-and-coming Australian fashion label that can combine talent with a strong business plan for 2015. The scholarship is open to all aspiring Australian fashion designers and labels that have been exporting their label for less than four years, and will be judged by an industry leading panel of fashion and logistics experts.
More information, along with application details for the scholarship, which closes to entries on April 25, can be found online at our Fashion Scholarship homepage. For more details on the designers we support, you can fan us on social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and You Tube.
