Blog – Tom Coronel: Yellow, the brightest colour ever!

Tom Coronel is lining up again in the World Touring Car Championship for the 2015 season. The Dutchman talks about his experiences in his exclusive DHL InMotion blog. Today: The partnership with DHL.

I‘ve entered a comprehensive partnership with DHL this season. What’s brilliant about it is that my Chevrolet Cruze RML TC1 is now liveried in DHL colours for the WTCC. Yellow! The brightest colour out there. Thanks to the car‘s colour scheme, everybody knows where I am in the field.

The car‘s paintwork is really important to me, after all, it’s my workplace. I was so proud when I saw the DHL colours and logos on my car. Of course, I just had to tweet the pictures immediately and put them on Facebook, even before the first official photos were published. It’s incredibly important to me as a driver to like the car. I just have to like my car!

DHL helps me pursue my passion for motorsport and I want to give something back.

And because I like my car, I regularly set to and rearrange the stickers and try to make everything perfect. It just has to look cool from every angle! The reason for that is very simple. A cool car is photographed more often and is also shown in newspapers, magazines and on websites. This is not only important for me but also for my partner. DHL helps me pursue my passion for motorsport and I want to give something back.

My special paintwork is not just fun at weekends, you know. Fellow drivers keep sending me pictures of DHL vans around the world, saying: “We‘ve seen you!” It's hilarious when I get these pictures. People regularly stop me and ask, “Tommy, will my package arrive tomorrow?” But that only goes to prove one thing: My car is unique and absolutely everyone remembers it.

When I’m out in the car, it means for them that I must be quick and that my driving style reflects high quality.

DHL is simply a well-known brand and gives me a huge advantage over others. I don’t need to tell anyone what the company does or tell people what my links with them are, which makes things much easier for me. I am the ambassador of the world‘s fastest and highest quality logistics and express delivery service. And the best part of it is that people see the DHL livery and now associate me with the brand. When I’m out in the car, it means for them that I must be quick and that my driving style reflects high quality.

I‘ve got plenty of ideas about exciting activities to leverage the partnership. I‘ve got a plan for the next WTCC race. I’m going to take a DHL parcel box along to the grid and put it on the car’s bonnet. I have a really, really special paintwork in mind for the night race in Qatar. It's just amazing what scope the colour yellow gives you. Maybe something shiny and bright! When I do it, everyone will say again: 'Ah, yes, that‘s Tommy.” There’s no way that anyone will miss my car – and then, I will have reached my goal.
