Montoya and Vettel triumph in Race Of Champions

The Race Of Champions in the USA produced a first-class show with plenty of action on both days of the competition in Miami’s Marlins Park. And there were a number of premieres, as this was the ROC’s first time in the US and first with DHL as logistics partner on board. In the end, Juan Pablo Montoya and Sebastian Vettel won the prestigious trophies that had been shipped to the United States by DHL for the winners of the individual competition and the Nations Cup.

Defending champion Vettel didn’t make it past the group stage on Saturday. Taking part in this prestigious stadium-based event for the very first time, ROC debutant Juan Pablo Montoya outclassed all his rivals, securing the win at the end of the evening in the final round against ROC veteran Tom Kristensen from Denmark.

In the Nations competition on Sunday, Vettel was without teammate Pascal Wehrlein, who had been advised by doctors not to take part after crashing at the start the previous day. Vettel, however, surprised the competition by winning all eight heats to secure the Nations Cup at the Race Of Champions for the seventh time. Team USA Nascar placed second with brothers Kyle and Kurt Busch.

While Montoya took his maiden victory in the Race Of Champions, this was Vettel’s seventh Nations win but his first without Michael Schumacher. "We started this journey together. We all would have loved to have him here. We all miss him, not just me for Team Germany. I was obviously smart enough to pay attention when he was teaching lessons", said Vettel in his hour of success, speaking about the record-breaking world champion.

The American guys went up against the rest of the world in the last race of the 2017 Race Of Champions. In a round that remained exciting until the very end, Norwegian rally ace Petter Solberg edged out Scott Speed to narrowly snatch victory from the United States.
