Lewis Hamilton takes DHL Fastest Lap in Barcelona

Lewis Hamilton swept the board in the 2017 FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE ESPAÑA PIRELLI at Barcelona. The Mercedes driver won the European Formula 1 opener from pole position and also secured the DHL Fastest Lap.

Hamilton had an exciting battle with Sebastian Vettel for the win. The British driver decided the scrap in his favor on Lap 44 with an overtaking maneuver at the end of the start/finish straight. Hamilton then took the lead and posted the fastest lap of the race on Lap 64 with a time of 1:23.593 minutes.

Hamilton just managed to edge out Vettel, whose best lap time was 1:23.674, followed closely by Daniel Ricciardo. The Red Bull driver finished on the podium for the first time this season, burning a personal best time of 1:23.686 into the Spanish asphalt.

“It was the rawest fight that I can remember having in a long-time,” said Hamilton about his battle with Vettel. “I loved it, this is why I race. This is what made me get into racing in the first place. This is what the sport needs to be like every single weekend. To have a close battle like that with a four-time champion is awesome.”
