After starting the Bundesliga season with a resounding 6-0 win over Werder Bremen in Munich’s Allianz Arena, the FC Bayern Munich players are in the midst of an international break. It’s the perfect time for us to review an amazing summer with Germany’s most successful soccer club!

For eight days at the peak of summer, DHL joined FC Bayern Munich on the Audi Summer Tour of the United States that took the team to stops in Chicago, Charlotte, and New York City. We had a blast getting our first glimpse of the players ahead of the season, meeting fans, and of course, providing outstanding logistics services for the team during the trip. You can check out all of our videos from the Audi Summer Tour, or read a run-down below of some of our favorite moments from a hot summer in the States!

DHL Fan Reporters

At each stop of the Audi Summer Tour, the DHL Fan Reporter provided a running commentary of everything happening during the summer tour. That included sideline reporting, conversations with fans, questions at press conferences and in the mixed zone, and insights into DHL’s logistics during the tour. From FC Bayern blogger Scott in Chicago, to Matt and his interview with FC Bayern Raimund Aumann, to former US national team player Jimmy Conrad, these reporters told the story of DHL and FC Bayern in the US.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Debut

We’ve been looking forward to meeting FC Bayern’s new coach all summer long. Carlo Ancelotti is known for his quiet leadership, and he did strike a measured tone in all of his interviews. What we didn’t know – and what caught one of our fan reporters by surprise – is that he’s also got a sense of humor.

DHL’s Matchball Deliveries

FC Bayern Munich played three matches as part of the International Champions Cup. The first was against AC Milan in Chicago, the second against Inter Milan in Charlotte, and the final contest was against Real Madrid just outside of New York City. Before each game, one special DHL courier had the honor of delivering the match ball to the referees on the pitch. Ellen, who had the job at the final match, even jumped in for a spontaneous interview in front of the camera with Artuo Vidal!

DHL’s Logistics

The matchball deliveries weren’t the only ones to take place during the Audi Summer Tour. DHL was tasked with shuttling all the team’s equipment – including the players’ personal belongings – to and from airports in each new city and between the hotel and match or training facilities. It required careful coordination with FC Bayern officials to make sure their needs were met. We also found time for an impromptu delivery with Jimmy Conrad to make one fan’s day

Matchworn Jerseys

We started off each match with the matchball delivery, and ended each with the next package ready for shipment: FC Bayern turned over a total of three matchworn jerseys for us to deliver to the winners in Mexico, Germany, and the US. Have a look here to see who won!

DHL’s Fan Event

The backdrop could not have been more stunning for the DHL Fan Event: with the Manhattan skyline in the background, our guests had the chance to play foosball, enjoy DHL and FC Bayern cupcakes, and – the absolute highlight – meet Juan Bernat and Rafinha in person. After takings selfies and signing autographs for all the fans, Bernat and Rafinha even stuck around for a pick-up game with the kids!

Julian Green’s hat trick

Many of the FC Bayern players who participated in the Euro 2016 were not on the US tour, which may have explained the balance of two losses and just one win. But, there was one absolute sporting highlight, and that was Julian Green’s three goals in the first half of the match against Inter Milan, which Bayern won 4-0. Green plays for the US national team, and the home fans in Charlotte made lots of noise for their countryman!

The Audi Summer tour was a truly incredible experience, and it would not have been the same without the thousands of fans that supported FC Bayern from the stands during the matches and online through social media. In fact, all summer long we got to know some of FC Bayern Munich’s biggest fans from all over the world and welcomed them into the FC Bayern Global Family. Have a look at the final video of our around-the-world trip!

DHL is a proud member of that family as well, and we’ll look forward to sharing more great moments together with the team and with fans around the world during the 2016/2017 season. Mia san mia!
