DHL Fastest Lap Award: FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DU CANADA 2015
A fourth win of the season for Lewis Hamilton in the FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DU CANADA 2015. However, the fastest lap of the race was set by another former world champion, Ferrari’s Kimi Räikkönen. The winner of the first ever DHL Fastest Lap Award posted an unbeaten lap time of 1:16.987 minutes in Montreal.
When Räikkönen made his second pit stop on the 40th of 70 laps, his Ferrari crew fitted scrubbed supersoft tyres. Two laps later, the Iceman set the fastest lap of the race while chasing down fellow Finn Valtteri Bottas in third place. Like the two Silver Arrow drivers ahead of him, Bottas went for a one-stop strategy. He started the race on option tyres and changed to primes on his single pit stop. Räikkönen, on the other hand, stopped twice, which enabled him to close the gap on Bottas in the final stint, though ultimately it wasn’t enough to make the pass.
"The tires were working pretty much ok, but in this kind of circuit fuel saving plays a big part and this obviously limited our speed today," said Räikkönen. The Ferrari driver finished the race in fourth position. "After my spin, we tried to recover from that but we found ourselves on different tactics than the Williams. Overall we had a pretty good weekend, we definitely improved in certain areas but of course this is not the result that I was expecting this morning. We’ll keep on working and improving things."

Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton continues to lead the 2015 DHL Fastest Lap Awards on a score of three. Räikkönen’s fastest lap in Canada takes him up to second place. It was the second time in the current campaign that he has set the fastest race lap, the first occasion being the Bahrain Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg and Daniel Ricciardo are equal third on one fastest lap each.
The next race weekend is scheduled for 19th - 21st June at the Red Bull Ring near Spielberg in Austria.
